Izabella Zaydenberg. Makeup and confidence have a tightly-knit relationship. For many women, applying makeup isn't just a therapeutic act, it's an empowering one — just like for some women, the act of NOT wearing any makeup is the act of ultimate confidence. And while not all women agreed that makeup brought them confidence, their stories did remind us that everyone's bond with makeup is different and beautiful. When I do wear makeup I wear it because I want to. It doesn't care about your size, sexuality, politics, or gender. It allows you to transform not only your appearance but your outlook even when you abstain," she wrote.
I've always thought of myself as a pretty low-maintenance chick. I can generally get out the door in 20 minutes flat, I gladly forego hair salon blowouts and I'm a downright conscientious objector to high heels. So when my colleagues suggested that we go a few days without makeup, I sneered as if it was no big deal. Before this, I wasn't very attached to wearing makeup anyway. I'm basically a tinted moisturizer, mascara and lip balm kind of girl, so I wasn't too scared to go cosmetic free. I mean, I'm a writer, not a model, right? Who really cares if I go to work with uneven skin and naked eyelashes? It turns out, pretty much just me -- but my opinion holds a lot of weight in my world.

This survey, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of The Renfrew Center Foundation, also indicated one-quarter of the women surveyed began wearing makeup at age 13 or earlier. Adrienne Ressler, national training director for the Renfrew Center Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders, said the survey also indicated 16 percent said they felt unattractive when they didn't wear makeup, 14 percent said they felt self-conscious without makeup and the same number felt naked without makeup. For many individuals, these feelings may set the stage for addictions or patterns of disordered eating to develop. Health News.
